The 10 Most Popular Games on Roblox in 2024

The 10 Most Popular Games on Roblox in 2024

Since its inception in 2006, the Roblox platform continues to highlight the inventiveness of users through user-created games. The platform would truly take off during the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in a flood of new users. Of course, with new users comes several new popular experiences. Though user counts have since fallen slightly off from their 2020 levels, the Roblox platform is still one of the most popular free-to-play experiences online. Several of the most popular games have billions of visits and maintain player counts in the 6 or 7-figure range. Interestingly, looking at a list of the most popular games on Roblox shows that there’s a wide variety of genres and experiences that are popular among players.

The cornerstone of the creative output on Roblox is the programming language Lua. Lua is beginner-friendly enough that those with no experience in game development can take a crack at making their own experiences. That said, there are plenty of extremely talented individuals who have taken to making games on Roblox. Additionally, these creators are keeping their games regularly updated and catering to fans. Thanks to the continued support of these titles and the strong communities of players that rise around them, several of the most popular games on Roblox can count themselves as some of the most played games around the globe.

10. Pet Simulator X!

  • Creator — BIG Games Pets
  • Total Visits — 8.7 billion
  • Creation Date — January 22, 2021
  • Most Recent Update — June 29, 2024
  • Genre — All Genres, Simulation, Social, Virtual Pet

Though it has since moved on to another server under another name, Pet Simulator X! is still one of the more popular user-created experiences on the Roblox platform. Creator BIG Games Pets would have two previous iterations of the title before Pet Simulator X!, with the series really taking off after PSX‘s release. Playing PSX earns players coins and gems which they can then use to unlock pets and, eventually, new biomes. Interestingly, unlocking new biomes introduces new gameplay aspects as players progress. It’s entirely possible to unlock every pet in PSX without the use of real-world money (Robux), but players can speed up the process if they choose to do so. The newest iteration of the game is Pet Simulator 99, which is quickly becoming popular enough to replace Pet Simulator X! in terms of visits and active players.

9. BedWars

  • Creator — Easy.gg
  • Total Visits — 9.2 billion
  • Creation Date — May 27, 2021
  • Most Recent Update — June 28, 2024
  • Genre — Fighting

Easy.gg’s BedWars is almost like an interesting hybrid between Minecraft and Fortnite. Players, either solo or in squads, battle each other in massive arenas and attempt to destroy each other’s beds to prevent respawning. Bed Wars has a huge amount of modes that it has introduced throughout the years, from the classic 4 teams of 4 or 8 teams of 2 16-player matches to the limited-time 30v30 matches or Bed Royale modes (where 25 squads of 4-player teams battle it out for victory). Using the tools and weapons available in the game, players can destroy the environment or build fortifications to protect their beds, and there’s also a wide-ranging arsenal of weapons to use in taking out other players and their respawn locations.

8. Royale High

  • Total Visits — 9.8 billion

  • Most Recent Update — June 29, 2024
  • Genre — All Genres, Simulation, Social

One of the earliest massively popular games on Roblox, Royale High is still going strong more than 7 years since its inception. A social-sim fantasy role-playing game taking place in a magical version of a school, Royale High consists of several different realms that players can visit. In each of these realms, there are other players and magical creatures to interact with, and the more recent versions of the game include a new Teleportation feature that makes hopping back and forth between realms easier than ever. Fashion plays a huge element in Royale High, with players able to earn in-game clothing items and accessories through progress and show off their style. And, like most of the games on this list, Royale High receives regular updates and seasonal events to keep the community engaged.

7. Piggy

  • Creator — MiniToon
  • Total Visits — 12.7 billion
  • Creation Date — January 22, 2020
  • Most Recent Update — June 27, 2024
  • Genre — Horror

The asymmetrical survival-horror game Piggy has an interesting history. Originally starting as a horror game with all the characters modeled after the popular children’s show Peppa Pig, creator MiniToon was forced to remodel all the in-game models in order to avoid the game receiving a DMCA takedown. Regardless, Piggy remains one of the more popular multiplayer horror experiences on Roblox. Similar to games like Dead By Daylight, one player controls the Piggy character and attempts to hunt down and kill all other players while they escape. Survivors can use different keys and tools to distract or otherwise fool the player controlling Piggy and then get to the map’s exit. Further, the game has a fairly overt narrative that would come to a conclusion in 2021 with the final chapter of the sequel game Piggy: Book 2.

6. Murder Mystery 2

  • Creator — Nikilis
  • Total Visits — 15.5 billion
  • Creation Date — January 18, 2014
  • Most Recent Update — June 27, 2024
  • Genre — Horror

Another of the more popular horror experiences on Roblox, Murder Mystery 2 actually takes much of its gameplay from the Garry’s Mod game mode “Murder”. Each match supports 12 players, with one player taking the role of Sheriff, another the role of the Murderer, and 10 players being the survivors. The only characters who spawn into the map with weapons are the Sheriff and Murderer, and the Sheriff has an advantage by being the only character with a gun. However, if the Sheriff dies, other players can quickly swoop in and claim the gun for themselves in an attempt to waylay the Murderer character. Further, players earn XP from surviving, taking down the Murderer, winning matches, or collecting coins, which they can spend to unlock items for their characters in future rounds.

5. MeepCity

  • Total Visits — 15.9 billion
  • Creation Date — February 23, 2016
  • Most Recent Update — January 25, 2024
  • Genre — Town and City, Simulation, Social

Despite its more recent controversy, MeepCity remains one of the all-time most popular creator-made games on Roblox. A social-sim role-playing game, MeepCity allows players to hang out and socialize with one another all while earning coins. Players can use the in-game coins to purchase and upgrade homes in Meep City, as well as buy pets that they can parade around the in-game environment and show off. The main way to earn coins is through fishing, and players can also upgrade and improve their fishing rods to make earning coins easier. The game’s controversy arose in 2022 when allegations of abuse and misconduct started circulating, prompting the game to be temporarily taken down and then re-uploaded in a day. When MeepCity came back, the Party feature was no longer available, insinuating that the mode was host to inappropriate adult content on an all-ages game.

4. Tower of Hell

  • Creator — YXCeptional Studios
  • Total Visits — 23.3 billion
  • Creation Date — June 18, 2018
  • Most Recent Update — June 25, 2024
  • Genre — Adventure

Sometimes the simplest games end up being the most popular, as is the case with Tower of Hell by YXCeptional Studios. An “endless obstacle course” game, Tower of Hell tasks players with reaching the top of a 6-floor tower in 8 minutes. There are no checkpoints, meaning failure results in starting over from the beginning, and the timer begins to tick faster at the end of each floor. Clearing whole towers unlocks more towers to traverse, as well as coins. Players can use these coins to purchase upgrades in a fairly complex skill tree that makes future tower runs easier and more successful. Though player counts have fallen off somewhat in recent years, the game has an impressive 23 billion visits since its inception.

3. Blox Fruits

  • Creator — Gamer Robot Inc
  • Total Visits — 35.6 billion
  • Creation Date — January 15, 2019
  • Most Recent Update — May 24, 2024
  • Genre — Adventure

One of the most popular games on Roblox is the anime-inspired Blox Fruits. Taking inspiration from Eiichiro Oda’s long-running One Piece manga and anime, Blox Fruits adheres to the same basic principle of the property without using any of its official characters or naming conventions. In Blox Fruits, players control a character who is setting out as a pirate on a great sea, combatting other pirates and searching for treasure. Similar to One Piece and its Devil Fruits, players can discover Blox Fruits that grant them special abilities and transform gameplay. There are dozens of islands to explore, weapons to collect, and adventures to be had along the way. Blox Fruits is a competent One Piece video game adaptation in everything but name, making its massive popularity on the Roblox platform a no-brainer.

2. Adopt Me!

  • Total Visits — 36.6 billion
  • Creation Date — July 14, 2017
  • Most Recent Update — June 28, 2024
  • Genre — RPG

There are lots of games on Roblox, but very few have their own website. Adopt Me! is one of the few Roblox games that transcends the platform, becoming a landmark experience in its own right. A role-playing game involving pets, Adopt Me! shares some aspects with Pokémon. Though players don’t battle with their pets, they do breed and trade them with others. Pets also have 5 different categories of rarity, and the rarest pets can fetch exorbitant prices on the Roblox marketplace due to Adopt Me!‘s popularity. Players can earn in-game currency to buy and breed more pets in Adopt Me!. To earn in-game currency, players simply need to care for their pets. Gameplay is fairly straightforward, mostly falling back on virtual pet mechanics as seen in games like Nintendogs. However, what makes Adopt Me! so popular is the collection aspect and being able to show off rare pets.

1. Brookhaven RP

  • Total Visits — 49.7 billion
  • Creation Date — April 20, 2020
  • Most Recent Update — June 21, 2024
  • Genre — Town and City, RPG

The most popular game on Roblox by a large margin is Brookhaven RP. This role-playing game has a whopping 50 billion visits since its inception, making it the most-played game in Roblox history. Additionally, Brookhaven currently has nearly a million active players, making it rival some of the most popular AAA releases in terms of player counts. In terms of its gameplay, Brookhaven is somewhat similar to EA’s The Sims games. Players create characters, customize them, and direct them about their day-to-day lives. Players can build homes and unlock vehicles, travel around Brookhaven‘s world, and interact with other players.

A large part of the game’s massive surge in popularity came from its place as a virtual world when many were remaining indoors due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, Brookhaven became a popular approximation of day-to-day life where friends could meet up without worrying about the ramifications. Brookhaven still remains popular as a social-sim RPG and is one of the most fully realized virtual worlds on the Roblox platform.
