In between all the E3 mayhem, we made our way to the Eidos booth. We had an appointment, so things went very smoothly.
First of all, we got a behind-closed-doors demo of Just Cause 2, a sequel that seems to be shaping up pretty nicely. The demo starts off with the main character free-falling with a parachute and landing right into the action. Missions involve a lot of shooting, as it's to be expected, but it also entails some creative action, such as grappling onto things to reach different areas, grabbing an enemy and hiding before killing him, figuring out a way to rescue your friend, etc. The most impressive thing about this game other than the fast-paced action and beautiful graphics is the massive map where the adventure takes place. Each area of that map is full of missions, so looks like it'll be a game worthwhile!
Next, we checked out and played the family-friendly action/adventure title called Mini-Ninjas. The game features a little ninja called Hiro who's very good at fighting and throwing Shuriken. After reading that, you wouldn't think the game is adequate for kids, except that the visuals are completely cartoonish, and when you knock out the little samurai enemies, they turn into cute wild animals. This is the outcome of an evil spell Hiro is trying to undo. As you advance, you'll pick up other friends, each of them with their own strengths weaknesses, who will help out the protagonist. With the push of a button, you can select a different playable character. Apart from the main sword and shuriken, you'll find new weapons throughout, such as smoke bombs, regular bombs, and many more. You'll also obtain new abilities like possessing an animal for a short period of time and using their strengths to go faster, fight a samurai, etc.
Last but not least, Eidos was showcasing the highly anticipated Batman: Arkham Asylum, a game they're co-publishing with Warner Bros. Interactive. Since Amanda saw it in-depth in another booth tour and also wrote a hands-on preview of it, click HERE for more information on the game.
