Import Frenzy! Top 5 Import Titles of 2008

Import Frenzy! Top 5 Import Titles of 2008 article

The gameplay may not be the most fresh or inventive, but if you haven't played the original or are on the lookout for some old-school platforming, you really can't go wrong with this title. Even though it has been announced for a European release sometime next year, it looks like the US might have been all but left out of Klonoa's release schedule.

Import Value: Moderate - Although this title is for the region-locked Wii, there are no online modes to miss out on, and platforming gameplay doesn't require any comprehension of the language. This title is definitely worth importing if you never played the original.

3. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Cross Generation of Heroes (Wii)
System: Nintendo Wii
Developer: Capcom/Eighting
Publisher: Capcom
Japanese release date: December 11, 2008

Although the US saw an ultimate mash-up fighter in the form of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, Japanese gamers were treated to an even more outlandish mash-up in the form of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom for the Nintendo Wii. For the uninitiated, Tatsunoko is a huge animation production studio that has produced classics like Speed Racer and Neon Genesis Evangelion, and it's known for its signature style and over-the-top character designs.

The game plays like a standard brawler, despite a few Wii-enhanced control mechanisms, and it has a lot to offer fans of these two franchises. It is very similar in style and format to the Marvel vs. Capcom series. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom features tons of characters from both universes, including Capcom characters like Ryu from Street Fighter, Roll from Mega Man, and Yami from Okami. Representing the Tatsunoko side of things are mainstays like Tekkaman from Tekkaman: The Space Knight and Ken the Eagle from Science Ninja Team Gatchaman.

Import Value: Moderately High - Although this game is hard to import as a Wii title, the chance to pit iconic characters from the Tatsunoko and Capcom universes is too good to pass up for fans of both universes.

2. Ketsui: Death Label (DS)
System: Nintendo DS
Developer: Cave
Publisher: Arika
Japanese release date: October 23, 2008

You may have never heard of Ketsui, but it is an arcade phenomenon in Japan. It is a vertical shoot-em-up style game that is very similar in style and function to genre mainstays like Ikaruga. Ketsui: Death Label is a Nintendo DS port of the arcade classic and features plenty of new and old levels full of frustrating and intense gameplay.
