2011 is going to be quite a year for big games. We've got Modern Warfare 3, a new Elder Scrolls game, and the Legend of Zelda is getting its final outing on the Wii this year. However, there's another game on the list of big releases, and, surprisingly, it's a PlayStation 3 exclusive. Sure, we've had our Resistances and Ratchet and Clanks over the years, but here's a PlayStation 3 game that is poised to become one of the most important games of this console generation. Yes, the game in question is Uncharted 3, and here are 5 reasons why you should be excited for it.
5. A Truly Global Adventure
The Uncharted franchise has always been about globe-trotting, but Uncharted 3 will take the scale of the series to all-new heights. From the middle of the ocean to the middle of the desolate Arabian Desert, Uncharted 3 will see our hero wearing out the soles of his shoes like never before. Though the first two Uncharted games saw plenty of exotic locations like South American jungles, Pacific islands, and the Himalayan mountains, Uncharted 3 will see Nathan Drake's adventure going to places gamers haven't seen him go yet. Though it has been confirmed that Uncharted 3 will not open up the world for players to fully explore, the different set pieces will give players a taste of the world's stage like never before.
4. DLC Gets its Day
I'll be the first to admit that I wasn't a big fan of downloadable content during the beginning of this console cycle. However, expansion packs for games like Red Dead Redemption and Mass Effect 2 have proven that, if done properly, DLC can prolong the lives of our favorite games. And in a blockbuster series like Uncharted, the potential for amazing DLC is vast. Though no details have been made public yet, creative director Justin Richmond has said that the DLC will add "hundreds of hours" of gameplay to the core experience. Uncharted 3's DLC is an exciting prospect that should finally give fans of the series a post-game experience worthy of a AAA game release.
3. Multiplayer Gets Friendly
Multiplayer gaming on the PlayStation 3 can be murky sometimes. Getting together to play games with your friends online with the PlayStation 3 has never been seamless, but with Uncharted 3, it's about to get a whole lot easier. Uncharted 3 will have a feature that allows players to party up and carry their own personal team of friends and rivals from match to match. The new online infrastructure is going to pave the way for better multiplayer experiences on the platform, and make for easier squad formation and truly cooperative play.
Uncharted 3's multiplayer beta has already proven that there's a thriving community ready to play the game, and finally giving players an experience comparable to one you might find on the Xbox Live service—sorry, but it had to be said—will make the online mode that much more immersive.
