With the release of the phenomenal Silent Hill 2 remake, it is important to go back to the amazing foundation that allowed for the game to really shine. Team Silent crafted something truly memorable with the second installment of the Silent Hill franchise. Silent Hill 2 originally launched in North America on September 25, 2001, before a definitive version of the game launched as Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams. Before being remade for modern audiences, the game was re-released in an HD collection alongside Silent Hill 3, but unfortunately, that collection is less than stellar.

Silent Hill 2 Premise
Silent Hill 2 follows the story of James Sunderland after he arrives in the town of Silent Hill, Maine. He receives a letter from his wife Mary asking for him to find her in Silent Hill. However, Mary suffered from a terminal illness that took her life three years prior. Reception to this game and its narrative was generally favorable, with praise only increasing as time went on. Despite the following, there are some Silent Hill 2 naysayers, specifically fans of the original who wanted a follow-up to Harry Mason’s story from the original Silent Hill. Luckily, they got what they wanted in Silent Hill 3.

Silent Hill 2 Main Characters
- James Sunderland: The game follows his journey as he unravels the mystery behind her death and confronts his own guilt and psychological trauma.
- Mary Shepherd-Sunderland: Her fate and the nature of their relationship are central to the story, as James grapples with guilt and conflicting memories about her death.
- Maria: Maria is a doppelganger of Mary but with a more flirtatious and lively personality.
- Angela Orosco: Angela comes to Silent Hill searching for her abusive mother.
- Eddie Dombrowski: Eddie is another person drawn to Silent Hill, driven mad by being bullied and ridiculed throughout his life.

Activate Mini Map
First, complete the game with the Dog ending. Start a new game, then set the button config to type 2 in the options menu.
The button combination needs to be input during normal play, immediately after exiting the inventory menu (i.e. while the screen is fading to black after exiting).
While holding the Start button, hold L2, Square, and L3 in that order. While holding these buttons down, tapping L3 will toggle different views on the mini-map. Tapping L3 enough times will eventually switch the mini-map off.
Save Anywhere
First, complete the game with the Dog ending. Start a new game, then set the button config to type 2 in the options menu.
This button combination needs to be input during normal play, while in control of James.

Unlockables
Bonus Riddle Mode
Beat the game using all three Riddle Difficulty settings to unlock a fourth difficulty.
New Options
Once you beat the game you will find new options in the Options menu including Bullet Adjust (gives you x2 or x3 bullets when finding ammo- say for example you get 12 bullets, if you set it to x2 you would get 24) and an option that lets you turn off the noise filters.

Secrets
Mary’s letter changes
When you Fight Eddie, The writing on Mary’s letter disappears. After you view the videotape in Room 312 of the Lakeview Hotel, the paper completely disappears. Then, after James encounters Pyramid Head for the last time, the envelope disappears. Possibly symbolizing that the letter was never real.
Extra Options
In the options menu, press L1 or R1 for extra options. These options allow you to change the blood color, whether your map is always zoomed in etc…
