Game Releases This Week — May 11, 2026 to May 15, 2026
The start of May has been pretty exciting as far as game releases go, and this week shows that there's little sign of things slowing down, even as we get into what's typically a bit of a slower launch season. Sure, there aren't nearly as many AAA blockbusters coming down the pike this week as there have been in the first part of the quarter, but indie developers are stepping in to pick up the slack and deliver a whole host of exciting-looking games that could very well end up being some of the year's sleeper hits. The biggest release this week is arguably the Early Access launch of Subnautica 2 on PC and Xbox Series X/S, as much for its potential to one-up one of the best survival games ever made as for the large degree of controversy surrounding the title and its publisher, Krafton.
Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes
- Release Date — May 11, 2026
- Developer — Alt Shift
- Publisher — Dotemu
- Genre — Roguelike, Strategy
- Platforms — PC
Kicking things off this week is a selection of highly anticipated indie titles, with Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes one of the most exciting. Coming from Crying Suns developer Alt Shift, Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes is a turn-based strategy roguelike with some excellent, high-tension space dogfights offset by a truly compelling preparation stage between missions, where interactions with your crew and tough narrative decisions step in for the action. As a roguelike, you can expect plenty of failures as you work your way toward salvaging what's left of humanity and avoiding the Cylon's relentless pursuit, and developer Alt Shift's pedigree shines through with how immediately rewarding and impactful Scattered Hopes' progression feels.
Besmirch
- Release Date — May 11, 2026
- Developer — Gangru Games
- Publisher — 2 Left Thumbs
- Genre — RPG, Farming Simulation, Horror
- Platforms — PC (Early Access)
One of 2026's most anticipated indie games is Neverway, but before that title launches in October, players have another cool-looking RPG and farming sim-hybrid game with horror elements to look forward to with Besmirch, launching today on PC in Early Access. Besmirch has had a public demo for a while now, and it's garnered a good bit of praise from players on Steam, sitting at an 89% "Very Positive" user rating. In Besmirch, players take on the role of a new farmhand in a struggling community suffering under the thumb of a corrupt and power-hungry Baron, all while fighting off some truly disturbing otherworldly horrors during the night to save what little crop yield you might harvest for the townsfolk.
OCTOPinbs
- Release Date — May 11, 2026
- Developer — tri-Ace, Lasengle
- Publisher — Aniplex
- Genre — Party, Social Deduction
- Platforms — PC
Social deduction party games are nothing new, especially in the wake of the viral popularity of titles like Among Us, but this week's OCTOPinbs does something that I can honestly say I've never seen done before. Coming from legendary developer tri-Ace, OCTOPinbs is a multiplayer party game where players assume the role of a group of octopus-armed firefighters, but one person in the group is perpetually restarting fires in their wake as they attempt to quell the blaze. To save the building, it's up to the group to figure out who the secret arsonist among them is, which is sure to lead to plenty of hijinks and hilarity. This is outside of tri-Ace's typical wheelhouse, but it's also an atypical crack at a multiplayer social deduction game, so it could end up being very fun for fans of the genre.
Outbound
- Release Date — May 11, 2026
- Developer — Square Glade Games
- Publisher — Square Glade Games
- Genre — Adventure, Survival
- Platforms — PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S
The last major release for today to kick off the slate of game releases this week is Outbound, which arrives today for PC ahead of its launch on other platforms later in the week. Outbound is an interesting "cozy" survival game where the goal is simply to venture out and enjoy nature within the confines of your continually upgraded camper van. Anyone who's ever watched vlogs of any of the van or RV life influencers out there and thought, "Man, that looks fun", will get to experience a bit of that lifestyle at low-to-no risk with a title like Outbound. And who knows, maybe Outbound is poised to have the kind of success that helps make the cozy survival and adventure game a new popular subgenre.
Better Than Dead
- Release Date — May 12, 2026
- Developer — Monte Gallo
- Publisher — MicroProse Software
- Genre — FPS
- Platforms — PC (Early Access)
Tomorrow is jam-packed with a ton of great-looking games, with the headliner being the Early Access launch of Better Than Dead. Better Than Dead has been garnering plenty of hype ahead of its release following a very well-received playtest, with most players walking away impressed by the game's realistic, bodycam-style visuals. As a shooter, Better Than Dead emphasizes the quick, high-tension shootouts of something like Hotline Miami, where the enemies are just as deadly as you are and quick to put you 6 feet underground. But that tension and difficulty really work in tandem with the game's impressive and highly realistic visuals and dark, real-world subject matter. FPS fans should keep a very close eye on Better Than Dead as it enters Early Access.
Call of the Elder Gods
- Release Date — May 12, 2026
- Developer — Out of the Blue Games
- Publisher — Kwalee
- Genre — Adventure, Puzzle
- Platforms — PC, PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S
Out of the Blue Games is back this week with yet another Lovecraftian adventure and puzzle game in the form of Call of the Elder Gods, the follow-up to 2020's Call of the Sea. Call of the Sea was an amazing first-person puzzle game with some strong narrative threads pulling players along and propelling them through some of its more confusing puzzle segments, so there's every chance (and hope) that Out of the Blue Games has made sure that Call of the Elder Gods delivers much of the same. From the preview screenshots, that certainly seems to be the case.
Clockwork Ambrosia
- Release Date — May 12, 2026
- Developer — Realmsoft
- Publisher — Omega Entertainment
- Genre — Metroidvania
- Platforms — PC
After a planned release for earlier in the year, new Metroidvania Clockwork Ambrosia finally releases this week for PC, and it looks like it'll be yet another great genre entry for 2026. Visually, Clockwork Ambrosia takes a good deal of inspiration from the 16-bit classics of yesteryear (especially titles like Mega Man X). And while its gameplay follows some similar inspirations, the introduction of a Metroidvania structure and progressive upgrades makes the game feel more metered and intentional in its power creep than a traditional old-school action-platformer. The demo for Clockwork Ambrosia was really impressive and did a great job of solidifying it as a game for genre fans to keep on their radar, so here's hoping the full experience can follow suit.
Directive 8020
- Release Date — May 12, 2026
- Developer — Supermassive Games
- Publisher — Supermassive Games
- Genre — Adventure, Horror
- Platforms — PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
Supermassive Games has long been known for making some pretty great interactive narrative games (think playable movies), with Until Dawn being where the studio really found its footing before moving on to the incredibly ambitious Dark Pictures series. And while the Dark Pictures games have been subject to a bit of a mixed reception, the studio's latest game, Directive 8020, seems primed to pull the naysayers over into the fold. This is an Alien and Event Horizon-influenced horror/sci-fi narrative adventure game with some really hair-raising thrills and plenty of difficult, impactful choices that supposedly help to encourage multiple playthroughs just to see how every potential narrative thread unravels. Let's just hope the story has some solid gameplay to back it up.
Flaw
- Release Date — May 12, 2026
- Developer — Plasmeo
- Publisher — Plasmeo
- Genre — FPS
- Platforms — PC (Early Access)
There's no shortage of boomer shooters over on Steam, but Flaw seems like it might be something special, especially for those of us who grew up playing the late 90s hits like Quake II or Half-Life. There's plenty of action to be found in Flaw, but the game's emphasis on tense, narrative-driven single-player gameplay and a campaign full of horror elements makes it feel like it occupies a nice middle ground between your traditional "boomer shooter" and a more thoughtful single-player FPS experience like we got during the late 90s and early 2000s. And of course, on top of its gameplay being retro-inspired, Flaw has some suitably old-school looking low-poly visuals that make it feel like an unearthed hidden gem from that era.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
- Release Date — May 12, 2026
- Developer — MachineGames
- Publisher — Bethesda Softworks
- Genre — Action-Adventure
- Platforms — Switch 2
Switch 2 owners continue to get one great AAA port after another on the system, and those ports only seem to get better and better as the hardware finds its footing among developers. The next up for the platform is Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which is both an incredible first-person action-adventure game and a fantastic Indiana Jones story. MachineGames has been very vocal about working diligently to ensure that the Switch 2 version of the game is as close to 1:1 with other platforms as possible, and early impressions point to the studio pretty much nailing that ambitious goal with how well Great Circle looks and runs on the hardware. For anyone who has a Switch 2 as their primary platform, Indiana Jones is looking like a must-have pick-up.
Vultures: Scavengers of Death
- Release Date — May 13, 2026
- Developer — Team Vultures
- Publisher — Firesquid, Gamersky Games
- Genre — Turn-Based Tactics, Survival Horror
- Platforms — PC
Having played a good bit of Vultures: Scavengers of Death, both in its preview window and in its final, release-ready state ahead of its launch this Wednesday, I can firmly attest to it being one that survival horror and turn-based tactics fans will want to keep on their radar. The title was originally supposed to be released in late April before getting a last-minute delay to add some polish and ensure that the full experience was playable from beginning to end, which is a smart move for a game with a good deal of hype surrounding it that's been in development for as long as it has. I can't say too much ahead of the embargo, but suffice it to say that Vultures wears its PS1-era inspirations loud and proud, both in terms of its survival horror and its TRPG influences.
Blades of Fire
- Release Date — May 14, 2026
- Developer — MercurySteam
- Publisher — 505 Games
- Genre — Action RPG
- Platforms — PC
Steam users can finally get their hands on Blades of Fire this week, which is a really interesting and somewhat underrated take on the Soulslike genre that deserves a wider audience than it got in its initial Epic Games Store launch. Developer MercurySteam is primarily known for its work on the modern 2D Metroid games (both Samus Returns and Metroid Dread), but Blades of Fire is a whole different kind of game with some really weighty combat, challenging enemies, and a very cool blacksmith mechanic where players can forge their own weapons to bring into battle. Here's hoping that Blades of Fire will find a dedicated cult following from its release on Steam, because it's a much better experience than a lot of the initial reviews gave it credit for.
The Caribou Trail
- Release Date — May 14, 2026
- Developer — Unreliable Narrators
- Publisher — Unreliable Narrators, Indie Asylum
- Genre — Action-Adventure
- Platforms — PC
We're getting yet another introspective adventure game set during World War I this week with The Caribou Trail, a first-person narrative-driven game about a group of unlikely allies set out on some risky missions in a lesser-known side of the conflict. While there is some combat to speak of in The Caribou Trail, the game places a greater emphasis on its adventuring and puzzle-solving aspects, as well as some surprising implementation of stealth elements and even some survival gameplay.
Hotel Architect
- Release Date — May 14, 2026
- Developer — Pathos Interactive
- Publisher — Wired Productions
- Genre — Simulation, Management
- Platforms — PC
Popular simulation and management game Hotel Architect finally releases into 1.0 this week on PC, and it seems like its Early Access launch over the last year has helped it become quite the cozy and enjoyable experience. Hotel Architect shares quite a few similarities with the Two Point series in terms of its mechanics and management aspect, but its sense of humor is far more charming and quaint than chaotic. It's not an incredibly deep management game, so those looking for some true-to-life realism might be left wanting, but anyone looking for a relaxing simulation game that has a low learning curve and is easy to get into can certainly find that with Hotel Architect.
Subnautica 2
- Release Date — May 14, 2026
- Developer — Unknown Worlds Entertainment
- Publisher — Unknown Worlds Entertainment, Krafton
- Genre — Survival
- Platforms — PC, Xbox Series X/S
Rounding out the week as one of the more noteworthy releases is Subnautica 2, the long-awaited sequel to the best-selling and critically renowned underwater survival game, Subnautica. Subnautica 2 has been a huge undertaking, with developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment putting years into the project to ensure that it eclipses its predecessor in just about every metric. At the same time, publisher Krafton has been the subject of some controversy for how it treated those same developers, essentially firing most of the key staff once the project was nearing completion. Hopefully, that shakeup in studio talent doesn't affect the quality of the finished product.
